The Oak of Anatole Le Braz

A REMARKABLE OAK TREE STANDING ABOVE A SUPERB SITE: THE FORGES OF PAIMPONT.

Anatole Le Braz’ Oak contributes to the beauty of an exceptional heritage site that comprises the forges’ former kitchen (now a renowned restaurant), industrial buildings including a beautifully restored rolling mill, buildings previously used for the daily life of workers (cottages, church, chapel, school…).

This oak, with its circumference of 4.60 metres, commemorates the life of the Breton writer who is said to have leaned against it. Perhaps it was while meditating in the shade of this imposing oak, near the restaurant of the forges of Paimpont, in Brocéliande’s inspiring atmosphere, that Anatole Le Braz composed his famous Légende de la mort. Since his stay in this unique romantic spot, the venerable tree bears his name.
